Five seats in every medical college will be reserved under the central quota for children of ‘COVID-19 Warriors’ in MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Studies courses from the 2020-21 academic year, Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan announced on Thursday, 19 November.
The new measure would cover children of ASHA workers on the ground and of doctors who have lost their lives in the pandemic or on account of their COVID-19 duties.
Acknowledging the Covid-19 Warriors’ Sacrifice:
The Union Health Minister said that this move aims to dignify and honour the noble contribution made by the COVID-19 warriors in the treatment and management of COVID patients.
“This will honour the solemn sacrifice of all COVID warriors who served with selfless dedication for the cause of duty and humanity,” he stated.
The selection of candidates will be made by the Medical Council Committee (MCC) through online application on the basis of rank obtained in NEET-2020 conducted by National Testing Agency.
